Why we were inspired by golf caps

Pourquoi nous nous sommes inspirés des casquettes de golf

There's one item in a golfer's locker that reveals more about them than any other garment. Not the polo. Not the shoes. The cap.

On the course, it's never a fashion accessory. It protects from the sun during four hours of concentration, frames the gaze on the ball, and remains impeccable from the first to the eighteenth hole. Everything that doesn't serve this purpose has been eliminated over the decades. It's this purity that fascinated us at LOWERY, and it's what shaped the form of our mantra cap.

A discipline that tolerates no superfluity

Golf is a watchmaker's sport. Every detail of equipment exists because it has a precise function, never because it looks pretty in a photo. The golf cap is the perfect example: a brim calibrated not to interfere with the swing, a structure that holds its shape even when soaked with sweat or rain, an adjustment that doesn't shift during exertion.

This discipline of useful, unostentatious detail is exactly what we wanted for LOWERY. No screaming logo. No shape that follows a seasonal trend. A construction designed to last and to serve, period.

The six-panel construction, a meaningful choice

Most golf caps use a six-panel rather than a five-panel structure. This choice is not arbitrary. Six panels offer a more symmetrical silhouette, a more balanced distribution of fabric on the head, and a visor that maintains its shape over time. It's a matter of mechanics, not aesthetics.

We adopted this construction for our own piece. The result is a cap that naturally adapts to most head shapes, without that feeling of an imposed form often found in more generic caps.

Elegance as a mental requirement

There's also something deeper in this inspiration. Golf is one of the few sports where elegance and mental rigor advance together. You quickly learn that a hasty gesture costs a stroke, that a relaxed posture betrays faltering concentration, that you must remain dignified in defeat as in victory.

This is precisely the philosophy that LOWERY embodies. Our embroidered mantra, Awaken Your Potential, finds a natural echo in this world where mental strength often makes more of a difference than raw talent. It's no coincidence that our brand story is rooted in the anecdote of Eddie Lowery, the ten-year-old caddie who carried Francis Ouimet's belief to an impossible victory at the 1913 US Open. This story was born on a golf course, and it continues to live, today, on the brim of a cap.

A timeless shape, far from trends

Golf caps have barely changed in decades. They don't need to change. Their form has been optimized by use, not by marketing. It's this timelessness that we sought for LOWERY: a piece that won't be dated in five years, that transcends seasons without appearing old-fashioned, because it never sought to be trendy.

Made of European linen, with an adjustable leather strap, our cap follows this same logic. It wasn't designed for an Instagram feed. It was designed to be worn, again and again, until it becomes an essential part of the daily life of whoever chooses it.

LOWERY Héritages creates mantra caps in European linen and leather, designed in France and manufactured in Europe. Founding edition limited to 240 copies.
